Fresh

It’s been a while, but today I have a fresh, new website. The idea is to keep this one very simple. In the past, I’ve had a tendency to overthink and overcomplicate these things.

Back in the mid-1990s, I was one of those internet “pioneers” squinting at terminal windows, editing raw HTML code in VI, and designing static sites for computers on dial-up connections. I got pretty damn good at HTML, if I do say so myself. Once Javascript, animations, a dozen-dozen database backends, I was left behind. I still, however, carried the skills and habits I’d learned after seven years of website development with me. As a result, I always managed to bog myself down with coding, design, data architecture… all that stuff that other people out there get paid a whole lot of money in order to do a better job than I possibly could.

Today, I have a clean WordPress site hosted on WordPress itself. I don’t have to worry about connecting to databases, upgrading the WordPress software, any of the technical stuff. A simple template and a promise to myself to stay away from any fancy coding will let me just sit back and enjoy the pleasures of blogging.
